A good day

Today was a good day.  So good in fact that as soon as we got the girls to bed I knew I wanted to record it so I will always remember today and how grateful and happy I feel.  It's Memorial Day which is such a wonderful holiday to honor those in the armed services who lost their lives protecting our freedoms.  I am forever grateful for their courage and sacrifice.  Tim had the day off which I loved. My brother Brian was also here for the weekend and that was a lot of fun.

We had a delicious breakfast of eierdatsch which are basically Swiss crepes.  It is my Grandma Hill's recipe.  I enjoyed making them and every time I do I think of her.  After getting breakfast cleaned up, Brian and I and the girls headed to the outlets with the rest of the crowds and scored some sweet deals with all the holiday sales.  I got the girls the cutest patriotic dresses from Gymboree for $10 each, such a steal. We came home to a clean house thanks to Tim. He is such a wonderful husband and I am so grateful for him.

Since it was a warm day we decided we would let Hadley swim in the new pool we got last year at the end of summer. Tim got it set up and Hadley swam for a little bit.  Then it was bbq time! Tim grilled hot dogs and hamburgers and I proceeded to make way to much food for the 4 of us but it was all so tasty!  We made Elote which is mexican corn, oh my word it is so good.  We made the recipe from our best bites and I don't know if I can go back to just butter on my corn :) After our bbq, Hadley hopped in the pool again.  I put Tess down for a nap and then hopped in the pool with her.  It was so much fun! We have a beautiful backyard thanks to Tim's hard work and it was so fun to spend the afternoon outside.  Hadley loved running through the pool, splashing, playing catch, blowing bubbles and kicking in the water.  She is going to be a swimmer, I can tell already.  She really loves the water.

After swimming we came in and watched Over the Hedge.  It was so nice to just relax.  I realized it had been a long time since I just relaxed to watch a show without worrying about needing to do something else.  I was so successful at relaxing that I actually took a nap!  Hooray!  That is a rare thing these days.  It was bliss.  After the movie, Brian and I played a little Wii.  Bowling and frisbee golf are our favorite and it's a tradition to play them when Brian comes to visit.   Then we ran a couple errands and grabbed some dinner to bring home.  Afterwards, Hadley got back in the pool.  She's in love with swimming!  Tim and I planted some flowers near the fire pit and Tess played with toys on the grass.  She has mastered sitting up now and loves being able to sit up and watch her big sister.  After Brian left to go home, we went for a long walk as a family.  This is one of my favorite daily traditions.  Tim and I get to talk while getting exercise and the girls love being outside, it's a win-win.

After our walk we hopped in the car and took it to the car wash  It worked out great because both girls fell asleep and we put them right to bed when we got home.

That was our day.  Nothing extravagant or out of the ordinary but it was just what I needed.  It was relaxing, fun, and great to spend the day with my family.  I'm so glad my brother could be with us too, I love spending time with him and Hadley loves playing with Uncle Brian, they have the sweetest relationship.

I found myself counting my blessings numerous times throughout the day. I am so blessed and am truly overwhelmed with gratitude for my family, for the gospel, for this country, and for my freedoms.
